Experiences, with Rani Sheilagh

BY THE MOON

with Rani Sheilagh

Somatic Movement · Breath · Meditation · Deep Rest

A monthly gathering inspired by the moon, the changing seasons and the rhythms of the natural world.

We live in a world that rarely stops asking for our attention, and By the Moon is an invitation to give some of it back to yourself.

Once a month, we gather to step out of the noise for a while, to move, breathe, become still and rest.

There is no striving, no performing and nothing to achieve. It is simply 90 minutes to reconnect with yourself, your surroundings and the world beyond the screen.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We begin by arriving, with a little time to leave the day behind, settle into the space and notice how you actually feel.

From there, Rani will guide you through a carefully paced 90 minutes of:

SOMATIC MOVEMENT

Slow, intuitive and breath-led movement to release tension, create space and bring your attention back into your body.

BREATH

Simple conscious breathing practices to help you settle, soften and reconnect.

MEDITATION

Guided and quiet moments of awareness, without needing to empty your mind or get anything right.

DEEP REST

Time to become still, absorb the experience and simply do nothing.

No two By the Moon gatherings will be exactly the same. Each month will respond to the season, the natural world and the particular quality of that time of year.

The moon gives us a rhythm for returning, while what happens within that rhythm can change.

YOU DON’T NEED TO BE A ‘YOGA PERSON’

You don’t need to be flexible, experienced or particularly good at being still.

By the Moon draws on yoga, somatic movement, breath, meditation, deep rest and Rani’s decades of experience exploring Eastern and Western approaches to wellbeing.

It is designed to welcome different bodies, different ages, different levels of experience and different ways of moving through the world.

You might have practised yoga or meditation for years, or you might never have stepped onto a yoga mat. You might simply be curious about what happens when you give yourself permission to slow down for a while.

Everything is invitational. You can adapt the experience to your own body, pause whenever you want and participate at your own pace.

Come exactly as you are.

WHY BY THE MOON?

Rani has always loved the moon.

There is something about looking up and seeing it there, changing night by night and yet always returning, that reminds us that we are part of rhythms much older than those that organise our modern lives.

Today, our days are shaped by calendars, messages and notifications, but human beings have always lived within other rhythms too: light and darkness, the changing seasons, weather, rest and activity, and the changing moon.

By the Moon grew from Rani’s desire to create a regular moment to notice those rhythms again.

It is not about astrology, prediction or needing to believe in anything. The moon simply gives us a beautiful way to mark the passing of time and an invitation to notice where we are within it.

Once a month, we gather to mark that passing of time differently, not by adding another task to our lives, but by giving ourselves our attention.

ABOUT RANI

Rani Sheilagh is a writer, author, cyberpsychologist and highly experienced teacher of yoga and meditation whose work explores how we live, connect and pay attention in an increasingly hyperconnected world.

She is the author of Live Life Yummie: A Delicious Rebellion, her debut book exploring pleasure, presence and connection, and what it might mean to live well when so much of modern life competes for our attention.

Alongside her writing and work in cyberpsychology, Rani has spent more than 20 years studying, practising and teaching yoga, meditation, breath and embodied practices.

She is recognised as a Yoga Elder by the Independent Yoga Network (IYN), reflecting her depth of experience, continued study and contribution to yoga teaching.

Rani’s approach has been shaped by direct experience of both Eastern and Western traditions and ways of understanding the body, mind and what it means to live well.

Her Irish and Indian heritage, a life lived across cultures, and her work at the intersection of psychology, technology and wellbeing have also shaped how she approaches practice, not as something separate from everyday life, but as a way of becoming more present within it.

By the Moon brings these different strands of Rani’s life and work together: ancient practice and contemporary life, body and mind, movement and stillness, the natural world and our increasingly digital one.
